A Dutch websiteis reporting that the next iPod Touch will support 3 gigabyte , just like an iPad . I ’m sceptical , but also would grease one’s palms that in a split second . What ’s more , it would be the destruction knell for my voice architectural plan .
I use my iPod Touch as a communication twist all the time . While it ’s not very effective as a phone due to the speaker placement ( although I do apply it for that on juncture , thanks to the Skype and Google Voice apps ) it gain a great school text messaging equipment . But of course , I ’m stiffen by Wi - Fi . So I only use it around the house .
But add 3 G and dead it ’s practical to use anywhere . It ’s a phone , minus the onerous vocalisation program .
I do n’t have a ground line , so my mobile phone is my master communicating equipment . Yet over the past several years I ’ve used fewer and fewer minutes in my explanation . That ’s for the most part because I now make so many calls using VoIP , either on my mobile earphone , or my computer . I even use my iPad to make call on occasion ( and to institutionalize SMS messages all the metre ) . It ’s weird - looking for , and kind of preposterous , but it work and it ’s come up in ready to hand more than once .
Despite that , I ’m still paying AT&T about $ 100 a calendar month for the voice and information programme on my mobile phone . Meanwhile , I pay about $ 30 a calendar month for the data plan on my iPad . If I could use a similar plan on my iPod , and port my existing number to Google Voice , it would be a huge cost savings to me over the row of the class . More than enough to justify buy a new iPod Touch .

If Apple relocate the speaker on the iPod Touch to coordinate with my ear , and adds 3 G support that lets me break up a data program from a smorgasbord of carriers , I ’m kissing my mobile phone serve goodbye always . It would be a gut punch to carrier , but it would be a massive blessing for consumers . And it would make the iPod Touch every spot as revolutionary a twist as the original iPhone .
So while , yes , I ’m skeptical , I ’m also very , very bright . Bring it .
