We ’re used to watch pendulum waves father on bantam scaffold with itty - bitty balls . But as this awesome demonstration points out , the same physics applies even at the largest scale of measurement .
The key to pendulum waves — and understanding why the chunk come along to move in and out of synch with each other — is that the strings are at unlike lengths . This causes each egg to dangle at a different charge per unit . Eventually , as the orb move back and forward , they finally “ twin up ” and make a wave - alike practice , like the one seen at about 2:40 .
This pendulum was built by Appalachian State University teacher and artistJeff Goodman .
