Alex Garland has written or point several excellent , terrifying , disturbing flick . Films like 28 Days by and by , Sunshine , Ex MachinaandAnnihilation . Films that show conversant cosmos in unfamiliar , and often prison term unfathomable , circumstances . His newfangled film seems as if it ’s going to do that too , but it ’s somehow much scarier than all of those combine . Because , well , the dystopia feel a little too real .
The film is bid Civil War and — because you are n’t show this on a historical internet site , and it ’s not a Marvel movie — it ’s about a Civil War in the future , but not that distant a future . polite War depicts a recognizable modern America torn down the middle and for sure brings to take care all fashion of terrible futuristic possibilities , specially since it ’s being released in a presidential election class . Kirsten Dunst virtuoso along with Wagner Moura , Cailee Spaeny , Stephen McKinley Henderson , Sonoya Mizuno , and Nick Offerman . Dunst ’s veridical - life husband , Jesse Plemons , is in that preview too — but since he ’s not listed in the official insistency release , we ’re suppose he may not make it out of that tantrum .

And while the Civil War laggard sets up a world where we take on Americans on opposite ends of the political spectrum are at war , we are n’t so sure it ’s but that . The trailer has a band of petty item in it , but Offerman ’s three - terminus president says that California and Texas have been defeated by the U.S. military . Texas and California are on the same side ? That does n’t seem like a ordered team - up . We ’re imagine Garland wants us to think this is one matter , when it ’s really something else . Even if that something else is just a metaphor for what we think it is .
