Those mass who play with the Hubble telescope say that this galaxy looks “ like a UFO . ” I call bollocks . This does n’t look like a UFO . This looks like the Galax urceolata from a long , long time ago , the Star Wars galaxy !
Just watch the movies , and you will see what I mean . Even the color palette is the same .
The name of the galaxy is actually NGC 2683 — aka UFO Galaxy — and it was find out on February 5 , 1788 by William Herschel . This mental image was made from “ two adjacent field observed in seeable and infrared lighting by Hubble ’s Advanced Camera for Surveys . ”

While astronomers prefer hoot ’s eye purview to see the structure item of a galaxy , they also appreciate a side - on view : “ a enceinte opportunity to see the delicate dust-covered lanes of the spiral arms silhouette against the favourable haze of the galaxy ’s effect . In addition , smart as a whip clusters of immature blue stars shine scattered throughout the phonograph record , mapping the galaxy ’s star - forming regions . ”
I just love this star stuff . I feel like Luke watching the Millennium Falcon go from the demented bay tree of a rebel escort frigate — grab Leia ’s arsenic with my new mechanic hand ( hey , I do n’t know that she ’s my baby yet , ok ? have me enjoy this fleeting moment ) . [ Hubble ]
