latterly , The Folio Society has been putting together some beautiful science fable and illusion Book : Dune and The Man in the High Castle each came out earlier this year . Now , Ursula K. Le Guin ’s fancy A Wizard of Earthsea will be getting its own especial handling , and will even out a long - standing issue that Le Guin has had with her book covers .
Introduced by novelist David Mitchell , this edition will have illustrations from David Lupton , who sour close with Le Guin to illustrate her fantasy world .

In doing so , Le Guin was able to objurgate a job that she ’s had with earlier editions : ineluctably , the Ged feature on the cover was drawn as Caucasian , whereas she deliberately wrote him in as having a very dissimilar ethnicity – a trouble that was run over into the poorly - fated SciFi television set miniseries .
Le Guin was pleased with the last effect :
“ The racial prejudice shown in most of the book of account ’ jacket cover after the first one has been most happily put to sleep , I hope forever , by David Lupton ’s example to this edition . I was able to tell Mr Lupton what I thought my citizenry and dragon looked like , and he had both the good will to listen what I allege , and the wonderful powerfulness to wrick my speech into vivid images . Collaboration between artist in different media is a unmanageable , chancy thing , but it can work a well-chosen Magic . ”
