Donald Trump has some , shall we say , “ odd ” thoughtsabout the wind . It ’s a shame , but we hypothesize he ’s not an expert in climatic phenomenon . Betsy DeVos , however , should be an expert on school day , but she also has some rather curious thought oneducation – this , indeed , is worrying .

And then there’sBen Carson , a unfeignedly strange man in many room . He ’s the Housing and Urban Development Secretary , and during his inaugural lecture to his Modern faculty , he referred to slaves being force against their will to come to the US back in the day as“immigrants . ”

That , indeed , isanother odd idea . At the same meeting , Dr Carson – a highly qualified and once - pioneering neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital – also carpet bombed the audience with some fact about the brain . As reported byWired , this is what he say :

“ It remembers everything you ’ve ever find out . Everything you ’ve ever heard , ” he bombastically began . “ I could take the onetime person here , make a yap justly here on the side of the head , and put some depth electrode into their genus Hippocampus and stimulate , and they would be able to recite back to you verbatim a book they study 60 years ago . ”

There ’s just a bit of teeny problem with all this – it’snot true . The brain does not remember everything you ’ve ever seen , and candidly , most old masses would n’t care Carson to pop out trepan them at will . Just think about it – do you remember what you were doing this time today 10 age ago ? Can you even echo what you ate for lunch last Tuesday ?

to boot , scientist do not have the ability at present to electrocute the brain in such a path that memories suddenly reappear . They can do amazing things , sure as shooting , like fuck off a quadriplegic ’s brain stimulated enough to have them find movement in their limbs – but the architecture of the wit remainsincredibly mysterious .

Wow . No , no no no .

Carson , however , was n’t land up .

“ [ Your brain ] can process more than 2 million bits of information per second . You ca n’t surcharge it . Have you ever heard people say , ‘ Do n’t do all that , you ’ll overcharge your brain . ’ ”

“ You ca n’t surcharge the human mastermind . If you get a line one new fact every second , it would take you more than 3 million year to gainsay the capacity of your brain , ” he concluded .

It ’s not clear at all where this 3 million years image has derive from , or what “ take exception the capacity of your mental capacity ” mean in a technological sense . The learning ability can only address so many tasks at once before slipping up – but this bump every calendar week , not once every 3 million years .

In forgetful , Carson gave the audience a speech in Alternative Neuroscience – a shade curious , considering his background .
