A Comcast cable bozo just told me that if you go to switch out your composite or component DVR / cable box for an HDMI - favorable one , and you specifically ask for an HDMI cable , they ’ll give you one at no care . It ’s not exceedingly long , but it should do the magic trick in most case . Even if you do n’t need one , it never hurts to ask while you ’re there , at least as long as the retail cartel is selling HDMI at 9000 % markup to make up for lose telecasting profits . [ Thanks , Cable Guy ! ] Update : Some hoi polloi state me that this is n’t the case in their area . I say it ’s still deserving trying , but do n’t be traumatise if the person behind the counter laughs at you for ideate that the cable party gave anything aside for free .
