There are two situations in which you should watch Dark shadow :
1 ) In the background at a party , with loud medicine playing . Project this movie onto a bedsheet on a rampart , and trip the light fantastic toe in front of it on a large quantity of Benadryl or wine tank or whatever substance you use to make your parties bouncy , and people will love it . There are definitely some endearing visuals here and there in this film , and it ’ll make first-class accompaniment to your collection of “ Jamz from Tha Trunk Vol . 2 ” or whatever .

So once Barnabas repay , he vows to rebuild the family seafood business , start head to head with the witch ’s vie seafood business . The notion of the lamia and the hag vie in business organization , instead of fighting each other with thaumaturgy or whatever , is pretty fascinating — but then it sort of go nowhere , after a mint of scenes in council chamber and factories and stuff .
Oh , and out of this come one more self - witting irony , on top of the other ironies : To the extent that the movie has an thought drive it forward , it ’s that Depp ’s lamia has more of a horse sense of self - deference and integrity than all the humans , who have shine prey to Nixon - earned run average lassitude . Barnabas Collins is a vampire , but he ’s also keeping the liveliness of the family active . This is a neat mind which also is n’t really explored much .

The other thing that this movie seems to want to be about is house porn .
