Biologist , natural historiographer and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has been awarded a " Champions of the Earth " Lifetime Achievement Award by the UN ’s Environment Programme ( UNEP ) .
The accolade — the UN ’s eminent environmental honor — is given to mortal , chemical group , and institutions that have made their mark in environmentalism . Attenborough , whose most recent efforts include the BBC’sGreen Planet , A Perfect Planet , and Apple TV ’s upcomingPrehistoric Planetwasgiven the awardfor his " dedication to enquiry , documentation , and advocacy for the protection of nature and its return " .
Attenborough ’s life history as a natural historian and broadcaster began in the fifties . In recent year , he has become much more outspoken in arguing for urgent action on the environment and the climate crisis , calling it " our greatest threat in thou of years " in aspeech to the UN .
Attenborough has devoted his life history to documenting the love story between human beings and nature , and disseminate it to the world , Inger Andersen , UNEP Executive Director , say .
" If we stand a prospect of fend off mood and biodiversity breakdown and clean up contaminated ecosystem , it ’s because billion of us fell in love with the planet that he showed us on television .
" Sir David ’s work will carry on to exhort people of all ages to care for nature and to become the restoration propagation . "
Accepting the award , Attenborough warn that the macrocosm needs to represent together if we want to mitigate the climate crisis .
" The world has to get together . These problem can not be solve by one nation – no matter how big that single Carry Nation is , " he said in a statementseen by the BBC . " We hump what the trouble are and we know how to solve them . All we miss is unified action . "
