Over the weekend , Harvey Guillén , who playsGuillermo de la Cruzon FX’sWhat We Do in the Shadows , host a spotlight dialog box at New York City Comic Con , record a live episode of his podcastBehind the Shadows . He was connect by Hocus Pocus 2 star Belissa Escobedo , who will be in the upcoming Blue Beetle picture alongsideGuillén . As they discussed their part in various projects , they dive late into what cook a horror comedy , and what makes death funny .

Readers , I am delighted to report that Guillén not only improvised the line of descent , but also convinced the conductor to keep it in the last gash . He also admitted to being a Lucha Libre fan , as evidenced by the plancha that Guillermo executed was a Mexican plancha , and not an American plancha — two very unlike grapple moves .
One of the biggest subplots of season four was that Guillermo gets a boyfriend . He also comes out to his family . A fan asked about how Guillén treat this storyline , as a queer Hispanic man working in Hollywood . “ It was weird . It hit close to home and it was healing , in a way , but it was a little triggering . ” For Guillermo , his gender was just one lie of many — the character ’s been lie to his family about his job and aspiration for years . “ The Trygve Lie are a heavy system of weights . The last drinking straw was when his chosen family — the vampire — and his biological syndicate were about to demolish each other . ” Guillén say that it was aroused because of how accepting Guillermo ’s family was . “ Some citizenry do n’t get that acceptance . ”
He said he would love to see a Guillermo de la Cruz spinoff – maybe an animated show or a comic . “ But we are foot up for seasons five and six , ” Guillén said . “ So who have it off what will happen . ”
