It’s been 33 years sinceHome Alonebecame a holiday classic, and the movie’s famous grocery store scene illustrates how times have changed since 1990.
Anew videofrom TikTok user Geoffrey Lyons points out that Kevin McCallister’s entire haul of food staples and household supplies — 10 items in total — costs just $19.83 (after using a $1 off coupon).
In his quest to find out what the same list of items would set one back now, Lyons, a Dallas-based real estate agent, looks up each item on Target’s website to tally up the cost.
Lyons’ search turns up the following prices: $4.50 for orange juice, $4.50 for Saran wrap, $5 for a frozen dinner, $13 for Tide detergent, $3 for Wonder Bread, $3.50 for mac and cheese, $4.60 for milk, $8.79 for dryer sheets, $8 for toilet paper and $9 for toy soldiers.
The items add up to $63.73, and when he adds $5.25 for tax, the grand total is $68.99, which he notes is a 248% increase over Kevin’s tab.
