Sometimes thereferee’s callsdon’t work in your team’s favor.
Although Ole Miss was leading for the majority of the final minutes of Wednesday’s game against the Vols, the tides turned after Rebels player Breein Tyree missed a free-throw with 17 seconds remaining,ESPNreported.
After Vols player Grant Williams grabbed the rebound, giving his team a one-point lead against Ole Miss, the ball was once again in the hands of a Rebels player, who had 1.1 seconds left in the game as he moved to take a 3-pointer shot.
However, instead of leading his team to victory, Devontae Shuler had an offensive foul called against him, as Tennessee player Admiral Schofield stepped in to take the charge, which gave Tennessee the opportunity to extend their lead to 73-71, as the game came to a close.
Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis also had a strong reaction to the late call and was seen throwing his suit jacket to the floor,USA Todayreported.
According to CBS News, Davis — who waspenalized with a technical foulfor his actions — went on to attempt to dissuade fans from throwing trash onto the court.
Ole Miss did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

“It was close. It was close. Our fans were unbelievable. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did. I threw my jacket and that probably enticed the crowd, so I apologize for that. Just being competitive in the moment. It was just a hard-fought game,” he shared.
Schofield went on to reveal that even though he helped lead his team to victory, he apologized to Tennessee coach Rick Barnes for the “risky” play.
“I just went in there and apologized to (Barnes),” Schofield said, according to theKnoxville News Sentinel. “Said I would never do that again. It was just a heady play. I saw him looking at the clock, so I’m like, he’s coming at me, I might as well step right here and just take it.”
“That was risky, but you know what, I’m the type of person, last shot, big play like that, I can live with it, win or loss if it’s one me. I can live with it. I can take it, the criticism, whatever,” he added.
Barnes added that although he was “glad” the play was successful, “you don’t want to put yourself in that vulnerable situation.”
