MightTimothée Chalamettake on a superhero role, even afterLeonardo DiCapriofamouslyadvised him against it?

While Chalamet, 28, and hisDune: Part TwodirectorDenis Villeneuvespoke withThe New York Timesabout the long-awaited follow-up to their 2021 science fiction epic, the actor fielded a question regarding whether he has received opportunities to play superheroes on the big screen.

“Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, ‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs,’ which I thought was very good,” Chalamet said. “I follow them both!” he added, after filmmaker Villeneuve, 56, jokingly asked, “Which one?”

“But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie,The Dark Knight,” Chalamet pointed out. “If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.”

Chalamet famously revealed that “one of my heroes” gave him the “no superheroes and no hard drugs” advice in a 2021 interview withTime. At the time, he did not specify who gave him that advice, joking, “I can’t say who or he’d kick my ass.”

In a 2022 interview withBritish Vogue, though, Chalamet confirmed that DiCaprio gave him that advice when they met for the first time in 2018.Voguedescribed DiCaprio’s mantra as a phrase that grew into Chalamet’s own “career rule” at that time.

Chalamet has largely stayed away from comic book and superhero movies in his film career, though he has taken on famous roles and beloved characters like Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka in last year’sWonkaandDune’s Paul Atreides, who does obtain some supernatural abilities in the science fiction epics he makes with Villeneuve.

The newDunemovie, which covers the back half of author Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, meets Chalamet’s character Paul almost immediately after the events of 2021’sDune. The film will “explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” according to an official synopsis.

“Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee,” the synopsis adds.

Dune: Part Twois in theaters Friday.
