Rick is the founder of MarketAxess, a successful global electronic trading forum. He’s also known for his philanthropy, which has been recognized with multiple awards over the years.

They got engaged in 2018

After two years of dating,Rick popped the question, and the couple got engaged in January 2018.
Both had previously been married and have kids from their past relationships. Lara was married to David Haffenreffer, a real estate broker and former reporter, with whom she shares two children: Kate and Duff. Meanwhile, Rick has three adult daughters of his own.
They got married in 2018
After just a few months of being engaged,Lara and Rick wed in an outdoor ceremonyin Vail, Colorado, on Sept. 1, 2018.
Duff wore a dark suit, white shirt and pink tie with a flower in his lapel thatmatched his mom’s bouquet, which held white dahlias, garden roses and freesias.
Lara wore a sleeveless Adam Zohar lace gown, with a mermaid skirt and sheer cutouts. Her long, white veil trailed behind her and her dress.
The newlyweds enjoyed their time in Colorado before their big day,going for a scenic bike ride.
He’s a Miami University alum
Rick attended Miami University in Ohio as an undergrad, where he graduated in 1981 with a degree in finance. He played on the school’s golf team and was a co-captain of the golf team during his senior season, when he helped lead the team to the Mid-American Conference men’s golf championship.
“My experience at Miami was the perfect combination of academic, athletic and personal development,” Rick said,reflecting on his time at Miami University.
“Partly as a result of that experience, I have found interesting opportunities throughout my business career and have had the confidence to take risks when the right career opportunities have presented themselves.”
They’re sports fans
Something Lara and Rick have in common is their shared love of sports, or at least, attending fun sporting events.
The pair were photographedsharing a kiss at the US Openin 2018, shortly after their wedding. They kept their streak of tennis events up when they attended Wimbledon in 2022, postinga silly smiling selfietogether on Lara’s Instagram.
“@tomcruise sighting at Wimbledon Men’s final as we watch the @k1ngkyrg1os show! Who do you want to win?” Lara captioned another photo where she zoomed in on the actor in the crowd.
They also attended the 2022 US Open together, where they rooted forSerena Williams.
“These pics=First time ever at Fenway park=Homerun. Yep. Super punny- but so true. Could not have been more fun being 1-on the field with Wally 2-and Jenny, 3-in the Bullpen w a babe, 4-watching the Yanks and the Socks w more babes, and then…. 5-A perfect full rainbow,” she wrote, alongside photos of her and Rick smiling on the field and in the bullpen.
They watched the New York Yankees at the Red Sox once again at Yankee Stadium in July 2022. “Homerun of a Sunday ⚾️🧢❤️,“Lara captioned a photoof the pair toasting their cups of beer.
He founded a trading company
In 2000, Rick foundedMarketAxess, a global electronic trading forum where he serves as the CEO as well as the Chairman of the Board of Executives.
MarketAxess has offices worldwide, with its headquarters in New York, and other offices in London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sao Paulo.
Before he founded MarketAxess, Rick worked for J.P. Morgan & Co., where he ran the company’s North American Fixed Income Sales and managed the institutional distribution of fixed-income securities to investors. Rick had initially proposed the business model for MarketAxess in 1999 as part of J.P. Morgan’s Lab Morgan program.
“I always wanted to work on Wall Street,” Rick toldFortunein 2014. “But I never imagined the magnitude of what’s happening now — that I’d have a role in changing how Wall Street actually works.”
In 2012, Rick was named the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year for financial services, and he has been named to the Institutional Investor Tech 40 list more than a dozen times.
They’re travel partners
With a company that has offices all over the world, Rick travels for work often. Lara’s job as a news anchor brings her all over as well, and sometimes they join each other in their travels.

Of course, they make time to travel for fun, too, likea recent family trip to Greece.
The couple also traveled to Capri, Italy and the Amalfi Coast tocelebrate their third wedding anniversary.
“3 years after the wedding….but worth the wait 🇮🇹❤️,” Laracaptioned a smiling photoof herself and Rick on the Italian coast.
Prior to their wedding,Rick and Lara visited Paris, France, where she shared a selfie Rick took of the two of them in front of the Eiffel Tower, joking that “the first 3 attempts at this selfie had the #eiffeltower coming out of my head like a single antenna.”
